Biography

Roger Lee Sweeney, 87, of Sallisaw, Oklahoma passed away on January 14, 2024, in Sallisaw. Roger was born on February 22, 1936, in Lamar, OK to Lee and Minnie Sweeney. Roger Sweeney grew up near Holdenville, OK, and joined the Navy right after high school. He
attended Northeastern State College where he received a master’s degree in education. He was
a basketball and football coach holding many state titles in Kansas. He moved back to Sallisaw
where he opened his car wash and worked with DHS. As many of you know, he loved to bless
everyone with free car washes. In his free time, he enjoyed taking care of his cattle. He spent
most of his life helping the youth. He enjoyed his many grandchildren and spent most of his time
teaching them how to be hard workers. Roger was one of a kind and will be greatly missed by
everyone who knew him.
Roger is survived by his loving wife Rebecca June Sweeney; children, Clayton Lee Sweeney, David and wife Lisa Sweeney, and Mark Sweeney; grandchildren, Terry Sweeney, Taylor
Sweeney, Brandon Sweeney, Bree Carter, and Ciara Sweeney; great-grandchildren, Cooper
Welch, Whitley Welch, Mariah Sweeney, Aniah Sweeney, Emilia June Sweeney, Harrison Lee
Sweeney, Ryder Justice, Blaze Justice, Avery Justice, and Logan Riggs.
He is proceeded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Sweeney; granddaughter, Mariah
Sweeney; and his best friend, John Osborn.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, January 18, 2024, from 4 pm. to 8 p.m., in the Sequoyah
Memorial Chapel at Forever Memories Funeral Services. 463505 Hwy 101, Sallisaw, Ok. 74955.
Funeral Services will be on Friday, January 19, 2024, at 2:00 pm., in the Sequoyah Memorial
Chapel at Forever Memories Funeral Services. 463505 Hwy 101 Sallisaw, Ok. 74955.

  1. We are very saddened to hear of the passing of Roger Sweeney. I know he was certainly very well cared for in the last several months by his son, Mark Sweeney, seeing that his dad got what he needed, fed & loved!
    That’s a great thing you’ve done for your dad, Mark! He will be forever grateful that he had you!
