Biography

Kenny Dwight Howell, 65, of Sallisaw, Oklahoma, passed away on November 05, 2023, in Sallisaw. Kenny was born in Sallisaw, Oklahoma, to James and Ruby Howell on August 10, 1958. He graduated from Sallisaw High School in 1976. If you were blessed to know Kenny, you were blessed to have one of the best friends you ever had. Kenny was a light. A light that chose to shine in the dark places of those who were fighting the fight that he had once fought. But Kenny would never take credit for overcoming what he had been through; he would give all the glory and honor to Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior. He was full of love and laughter and always there to lend a smile. He was encouraging and would stand in your corner when you needed him. He had a testimony, and he was sharing it. He lifted many spirits when they were down simply by being his true self, cheerful and genuine. Kenny was loved by all and will be greatly missed.

Kenny is survived by his son, Heath Howell, his siblings, Randy Howell, Dick Howell, and one grandchild, Christian Howell, and many dear friends whom he thought so highly of.

Kenny is preceded in death by his wife and Heath’s mother, Sharla Howell (Gibson); his dear friend whom he loved, Julie Mooring; his son, Joshua Howell; his parents, James and Ruby Howell; and his sister, Marcia Howell.

My condolences to you and your family… Kenny was and still is to me all those things wrote about him. He was a light in everyone’s corner and often encouraged me to stay in my path of sobriety.. I know that he was very strong in his sobriety and was someone I looked up to and strived to be like Kenny was not snow white or crystal clean but he over came that with great pride with the strength of his Lord and Savior who pulled him out of the depths of hell and addiction. I know he is rejoicing in the arms of his one true love whom he never stopped loving not even for a second. He loved Dude with his heart and dude will be and is Kenny in dog form. The entire sequoyah county and surrounding towns are mourning the loss of this great man. You only find someone like him once or twice in a lifetime. I can’t say enough but he’ll always be in our heart as he rejoices in heaven..

Kenny and I go way back to the beginning. Cousins first, then first graders through 12th grade. Running around as teenagers, hanging out at snak shak, he was always one for a good laugh and making others feel better. Hanging in my office is a shadowbox photo of a Sallisaw High School ring with Robert engraved on it. Kenny found that for me and brought it to me. It hangs where we hung it that day. It will be forever with me. I loved him and he knew it. See when I get there Cuz.
