John David Ross Sr.

Biography

John David Ross Sr, 85, went home to be with Jesus Christ on January 23, 2024. He was born on August 23, 1938, in Hodgens, Oklahoma, to the now late Bill and Eunice Ross. John was a proud 1956 graduate of Central High School. Shortly after graduating, John served in the United States Navy until 1962. He served on the U.S.S. Saratoga. After coming home, he worked as a journeyman lineman for Cookson Hills Electric; he would retire as a foreman 42 years later in June of 1963. John married the love of his life, Lahoma Fay Lattimore, on August 27, 1962. They were united in marriage for 61 years. He was a humble servant of the Lord and was saved and then baptized on March 15, 1972, at Hanson Baptist Church at the age of 33. John and Lahoma drove the church bus together for 46 years. He became a deacon in 1972 and taught Sunday school for 40 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working on his farm. He loved watching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren play sports. He will forever be one of their biggest fans. He now has the best seat in the house to continue cheering them on throughout their lives.

He is survived by his daughters Shannon (Ross) Tucker and her husband, Bryan Tucker; Barbara (Ross) Cawhorn; her husband, Jeff Cawhorn; and his son, John David Ross II, and the late Sherry Durant-Ross. He also helped raise his nieces and nephews: Romy (Ross) Vogt, Una Ross, Marty Ross, and Jackie Ross. His grandchildren Sierra Tucker and Cody Nieto, Ty Braden Tucker, Blair (Haggard) Holloway and husband, Yusuf Holloway, Roger Haggard II and wife, Katrina Haggard, Chase Christian Ross, Sydney Ross and Logan Scaggs, Alyssa Ross, Legacee Ross, and Brekken Ross. His great-grandchildren, Zoiey, Courtland and Brees Holloway, Solomon Nieto, Emree Ross, Hollyn Scaggs, Adalyn, Ivy, and Ellie Ross, and Hudson and Hadley Gann and countless other nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and dear friends.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lahoma; his brother, William “Henry” Ross; his sister, Sarah Ross; his parents, Bill and Eunice Ross; and his daughter-in-law, Sherry Durant–Ross.

The pallbearers will be Bryan Tucker, Jeff Cawhorn, Marty Ross, Roger Haggard II, Yusuf Holloway, Ty Tucker, and Chase Ross.

The Honorary Pallbearers will be Corky Hunt, Kyle Caughman, Dan Callahan, Matt Davis, and Jimmy Dale Rogers.

Visitation will be on Sunday, January 28, 2024, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM in the Sequoyah Memorial Chapel of Forever Memories Funeral Services. The family will greet guests from 6:00 – 7:00 PM.

Funeral services will be on Monday, January 29, 2024, at 2:00 PM at the Hanson Baptist Church in Sallisaw, Oklahoma, with Bob Pitman officiating. (108575 S 4670 Rd, Sallisaw, OK 74955.) Interment will follow at Akins Cemetery in Sallisaw, Oklahoma.

The family has entrusted the funeral arrangements to Forever Memories Funeral Services, INC, Sallisaw, Oklahoma 74955.
