Biography

Gregory Franklin Wilson, 69, of Roland, Oklahoma, passed away on July 2, 2023, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Greg was born in Fort Smith, Arkansas, to Joseph Franklin and Thelma Jean Wilson on June 17, 1954.

Greg graduated from Roland High School in 1972. He worked for Hunt’s Department Store. He also served the town of Roland as a police officer and eventually town administrator. He was a founding member of the Roland Fire Department. He would go on to work as an investigator for the OSBI and worked at the Sequoyah County Assessor’s Office.  Greg was also the owner of Ranger Corral for a time. He was a proud member of the First Baptist Church in Roland.

Papa, as he is lovingly known by his grandkids, loved watching the Roland Rangers, Oklahoma City Thunder, St. Louis Cardinals, and the Oklahoma Sooners. He enjoyed camping, making wahoo boards, and, most of all, spending as much time as possible with his family, who deeply cherished him.

Greg is survived by his wife of 37 years, Venita Wilson; his children, Crystal and Tim Johnson, Tiffany Wilson, Casey and Alex Bryce; and his grandchildren, Caedmon Johnson, Jordan Johnson, Krislyn Wilson, Skylor Serjeant, Payton Serjeant, Karsyn Serjeant, Baylee Serjeant, and Easton Bryce.

Greg is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Sue Spivey and Debbie Richards.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 6, 2023, from 4:00-8:00 PM at the First Baptist Church in Roland, Oklahoma; the family will welcome visitors from 6:00 – 8:00 PM.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 7, 2023, at the First Baptist Church in Roland, Oklahoma.

Pallbearers will be Tim Johnson, Alex Bryce, David Richards, Daniel Richards, Skylor Serjeant, and Tristan Palmer.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Mike Richards, Ronnie Rogers, Heath Wood, Paul Borum, Bill Spivey, Joe Wilson, and all Active and Retired members of the Roland Fire and Police Departments.

  2. This is a sad time for family and friends. My heart hurts for the world’s loss of Greg. Greg was a loving man and cared deeply for his wife Venita and his children, grandchildren and friends. Sending positive thoughts and prayers for all at this time of grieving.
