Biography

Barbara Ann Nathman was born July 16, 1938, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to the late Benjamin Mouser and LaFrona Foshee Mouser. She passed into our Savior’s loving arms on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at Sequoyah Manor in Sallisaw, Oklahoma. 

On June 2, 1958, she married her high school sweetheart, Charles A. Nathman, in Stevenson, Washington, and they celebrated their 66th anniversary this year. Throughout their married life, they followed his career with the Federal Aviation Administration to California, Texas, and Oklahoma. 

She graduated from Oklahoma University in 1965 with a bachelor’s degree in education while living in Oklahoma City and taught in the Moore Public School district. She later completed a master’s in special education at North Texas University while living in Keller, Texas. She was the Keller High School choir director and retired from teaching in 1994. 

For the next twenty-five years, she researched the genealogy of the Mouser and Nathman families, culminating in three published volumes of family history. 

Barbara was a very kind person with a great sense of humor. She was a good sport and loved to play golf and the piano. Throughout the years, she was the church pianist at the churches she attended. 

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Richard Bryant Mouser. 

Survivors include her husband, Charles Nathman; sons Michael Wayne and Karen of Cookson, OK; Daniel Bryant and daughter-in-law Gayle of Claremore, OK; and Steven Ray and daughter-in-law Brenda of Watauga, TX. 

Grandchildren: Ben Nathman, Kyle Nathman, Katie Drenthe, Kody Nathman, Will Nathman, Kolin Nathman, and step-granddaughter Sara Watson; great-grandchildren: Clara, Ahnika, Cooper, and Cody Paddelford, Caiden Nathman and Aurora Nathman. 

Services will be held on October 12, 2024, at 10:00 AM at the Blackgum First Baptist Church in Vian, Oklahoma.

The pallbearers are Ben Nathman, Kyle Nathman, Kody Nathman, Will Nathman, Kolin Nathman, and Don Farris. 

Honorary pallbearers are Sara Watson, and Katie Drenthe. 

The family wishes to thank the staff of Sequoyah Manor and the Elara Caring Hospice for Barbara’s compassionate care.

The family has placed their trust in the caring hands of Forever Memories Funeral Services, INC, Sallisaw, Oklahoma, for the funeral arrangements.

  2. We will always remember Barbara for her friendly smile and her warm visits while we were at our lake home next door.

  3. Barbara Ann was a bright light. She lit up a room with her smile. She was always so kind. She loved her family more than anything.
