Sophia Lorene (Sovo) Remer

Biography

Sophia Lorene (Sovo) Remer, 60, of Vian, Oklahoma, passed away at sunset on September 29, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Her family sang her favorite songs to her and shared her favorite stories as she journeyed to the arms of the Lord. Sophia was born to Thomas Louis Sovo Sr. and Geneva (Sunagoowie) Sovo on August 24, 1964, in Lawton, Oklahoma.

Sophia is now in heaven in the presence of Jesus, singing with the loved ones who passed on before her. Sophia had great pride in her Sterling Tigers, but her greatest joy was her children and grandbabies. She enjoyed her job as one of the most loved “lunch ladies” at Vian Public Schools. She served in the Vian Public Schools for 19 years. Proud member of the Comanche Nation and also of the Cherokee and Creek descent. She enjoyed traveling back and forth from Vian to Sterling, Oklahoma, to visit family and friends. She loved watching her nieces and nephews cheer and play sports. Sophie often talked about all her travels and of seeing George Strait, front and center. She would brag to us that she touched him as he walked by! She was looking forward to her retirement and traveling with momma “Tee” to see all those places on their bucket list. She was blessed with many good friends, and perhaps one of her most precious sisters was Toddie. Thank you, Toddie, for always being present with Sophie.

Thank you to the Vian Public School lunch ladies and all those who continued talking and visiting with her.

Sophia is survived by her children, Sahrina DeShawn Remer and Robert Morgan Remer, and her siblings, Kris and Dwayne Smith, and Thomas “T. D.” and Kathy Sovo; her grandchildren, Rosslyn Morgan Remer, Myka Wade Rowland, and Sovo Brikk Ed Bush Rowland; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members, and friends. She loved her Western Oklahoma family dearly and wished they could have spent more time together.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Louis Sovo Sr. and Geneva (Sunagoowie) Sovo-Smith; her brother, Kendall Smith; her grandmother, Earnestine Sovo; and her former husband and friend, Wade Remer.

Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM on Friday, October 4, 2024, in the Sequoyah Memorial Chapel of Forever Memories Funeral Services of Sallisaw, Oklahoma. The family will hold a prayer service from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at the Cedar Springs Baptist Church in Gore, Oklahoma. (99189 S 4446 Road, Gore, Oklahoma 74435.)

  6. All of her friends from the Sterling High Class of 1982 were shocked and saddened to hear of her passing. She was always a bright smile you could look forward to, and a contagious laugh that would lighten your day. There are of course many other stories and memories of Sophie we shared and in this difficult time we offer our condolences and prayers. God be with and bless all who knew and loved this precious lady. She will be missed deeply by everyone whose life she touched.
