Services for Violet Clyde “Clydie” Cato, 76, of Blackgum will be held at 10 a.m., Wed., Aug. 12, 2020, at Blackgum Harvestime Church with Pastor Chris Armer and her grandson and evangelist, Aaron Crainshaw, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Box Cemetery, north of Vian, under the direction of Forever Memories Funeral Services of Sallisaw. Visitation for Mrs. Cato will be on Tuesday, Aug 11, 2020 from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm in the Sequoyah Memorial Chapel of Forever Memories Funeral Services, 463505 Hwy 101, Sallisaw.Mrs. Cato was born on Aug. 21, 1943 in Tahlequah to Dugan and Violet Briggs and passed this life on Sun., Aug. 9, 2020, in Tulsa surrounded by loved ones.She attended Bacone College and did her internship at Muskogee, where she received a RN degree, dedicating her life to taking care of others. She was gentle, kind and compassionate to her patients, working as a registered nurse for nearly 40 years combined at Tahlequah City Hospital, Stilwell Memorial Hospital, Cherokee Nation Home Health, and the Stilwell Jail. She was a member of Blackgum Harvestime Church where you would often hear her playing the piano and singing, and was a member of the church’s Sewing Sisters, where she loved to sew, quilt and crochet.She married Frank G. Cato on Sept. 28, 1979, in Miami, Okla. and between them they had their own Brady Bunch, raising seven children. Clydie and Frank loved to go elk hunting with friends and family in Colorado every year. They also loved traveling, gardening, taking care of their livestock, and running “Grandpa’s Veggie Stand” at their home on Cato Ridge Road.Frank preceded her in death on May 4, 2014, in Vian.She loved her family more than anything, cherishing time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and other family and friends.Survivors include four sons, Aaron Crainshaw and wife Cheryl of Rudy, Ark., Daron Crainshaw and wife Jackie of Sallisaw, Bobby Crainshaw and Nicola Komillades of Irving, Tex., and Clinton Cato and wife Robbie of Blackgum; three daughters, Jenetta Ross and husband James of Vian, Gina Cato of Blackgum, and Amie Cato-Remer of Vian; one brother, Arnold Briggs of Tahlequah; two sisters and brothers in law, Carolyn Pritchett and husband Tony, and Dreatha and husband Donnie Hallum, all of Tahlequah; two brothers in law, Tony Hallum of Tahlequah, and Raymond and wife Dixie Cato of Wichita, Kan.; sister in law, Myrtle Briggs of Tahlequah; 17 grandchildren, Nicole, Aaron Jr., Alaina, Andrea, Blake, Colton, Kristy, Allison, Rickey, Ty, Brandon, Derek, Lance, Sarah, Ashley, Kelsei, and Sydney; numerous great grandchildren; and a host of other loved ones, nieces and nephews, and numerous friends.She was also preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Suelene Hudson and Eunice Hallum; and one brother, Aaron Briggs.Active pallbearers will be Faron Pritchett, Blake Crainshaw, Tony Hallum, Jr., Caleb Briggs, Aaron Briggs, Jr., and Randall Hudson.Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Studie, Timothy Hudson and Brad Chaser.
