Biography

Mr. Larry Poindexter, 74, was born on July 1, 1946 in Sallisaw, Oklahoma to Raymond and Wilma Oliver Poindexter. He passed peacefully surrounded by family on December 4, 2020.He was married to Wilma Wofford on Nov. 23, 1983 in Sallisaw, Oklahoma. Larry graduated Sallisaw HS in 1964 and Northeastern University in 1968. He practiced accounting and bookkeeping for several businesses in Oklahoma, Texas, Mississippi and Arkansas.For the past 34 years, he worked for AWC/PPG in Fort Smith, Arkansas. The role closest to his heart, however, was serving as Pastor of Keota Church of Christ for almost 40 years.Larry was an avid sports fan and especially loved his Sallisaw Black Diamonds and OU Sooners.He was a collector of many things including sports memorabilia, model ships and had a vast music collection.Survivors include his loving and devoted wife Wilma Poindexter of the home; Three daughters, Tina Dill of Nashville, TN, Amy Smith of Vicksburg, MS and Melissa Sterling of McAlester, OK.; Three sons Paul Erwin of Durant, OK, Micheal Erwin of Sallisaw, and Mark Erwin of Ft. Gibson;15 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren; 1 brother Lehman Poindexter of Porter, OK; and 1 sister Anita Martin of Leander, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.Memorial services for Larry will be held on Tuesday, Dec 8, 2020 at 10:00 am in the Sequoyah Memorial Chapel of Forever Memories Funeral Service, 463505 Hwy 101, Sallisaw, OK. Wilma, I’m So Sorry to hear about Brother Larry, but I know Brother Larry and Mother are rejoicing and singing beautiful church hymns together once again in heaven like we all have done there at the Keota Church of Christ. Precious Memories. Wish I were able to be there to share in your sorrow and be present to show all how much Brother Larry meant to me.

  4. Saddens my heart to hear this.larry tinted many gallons of paint over the years. He was the best of matching paint colors. He was a good friend and I pray for the family he was a great person and will be missed
