Biography

Galela Ruth Vann Caughman was born in Tahlequah, Oklahoma on September 29, 1940 to Mary Lee Vann Chuculate and Harry Kirk Tootle. She went to be with the Lord at the age of 79, on Sunday, May 10, 2020 at Springfield Regional Medical Center, in Springfield, Ohio.Galela grew up in the Seven Oaks Community and attended Central High school. She married Bobby Gene “Bob” Caughman on August 21st, 1957 in Stilwell, Oklahoma, and was employed by Sequoyah Memorial Hospital as a Certified Dietary Manager before retiring. She was a loving and kind soul that always had a smile on her face. She was always there to listen or lend a helping hand. She was a survivor and overcame many health issues in which she was confronted with. Galela was an elder member of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma. She was a beautiful native woman that was very proud of her Cherokee heritage. Galela loved to read, go to church, play bingo, garage sales, listen to music, and spend time with family in Ohio and Oklahoma. She was the matriarch of her family, and she will surely be missed by all.Galela was a loving Mother and is survived by her children, Paul Caughman of Springfield, Ohio; Leann Caughman and companion Diana Miller of Sallisaw, Oklahoma; and Kelli Caughman of Springfield, Ohio; Grandchildren, Brad and Laura Caughman, Chris Caughman, Trinidi Ortega, and Andrew Ortega all of Springfield, Ohio, Jeremy and Bridgette Caughman of Owasso, Oklahoma, Nikki and Ed Smoke and Stephanie Fuller of Sallisaw, Oklahoma; Great grandchildren, Aloni and Skylar McNutt, Aleksis Caughman, Deidre Caughman, O’mari Caughman all of Springfield, Ohio, Carter Caughman and Cameron Caughman of Owasso, Oklahoma; Great great grand children, Lincoln Bradley McNutt of Springfield, Ohio. One sister, Linda Hayden and brother in law Phil Hayden of Sallisaw, Oklahoma. Her loving fur babies and companions, Sammy, Izzy, and Itter, and a multitude of many family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Gene Caughman, parents Mary Lee Vann Chuculate and Harry Kirk Tootle; Grandparents, Hunter and Linda Vann; Three brothers, Bobby Vann, Jerry Chuculate, and Troy Chuculate. Funeral Services for Galela Ruth Vann Caughman will be held in the Sequoyah Memorial Chapel, Forever Memories Funeral Services, 463505 Hwy 101, Sallisaw, Oklahoma on Saturday, May 16th, 2020 at 2:00 P.M. with Dewayne Bird officiating. Visitation will be Friday, Mar 15, 2020, from 4-7 p.m. in the Sequoyah Memorial Chapel. Pallbearers will be her Grandsons; Chris Caughman, Jeremy Caughman, Brad Caughman, and Andrew Ortega, and her Great Grandsons Carter Caughman, and Skylar McNutt. Interment will follow at Akins Cemetery.The family of Mrs. Caughman asks that all in attendance be respectful of the CDC Guidelines concerning social distancing. Funeral Arrangements are under the Direction of Forever Memories Funeral Service, Sallisaw, Ok.

  6. Aunt Galela….I love you and will miss you from the ground to the sky!! You always use to tell me how beautiful I was and how good I was at basketball. It always made me feel special!! And still were to the day you earned those golden wings.Even though Jay and Kelli had gone their separate ways, my son loved you still. He said you were like a second Mom to him.Give my Mom, Dad and siblings in Heaven hugs for me. Even though we are sad here on earth, you are exceedingly happy where you are.

  10. Sorry for your loss. Had a lot of fun times with Galela and Bob. She knew you wherever she saw you and was quite the talker. Have a lot of great memories from spending time with her siblings and mom.
