Biography

Eddie Brown, 69, was born on Aug. 31, 1950 in Rowe, AR to Bill and Jewell Brown. He left this earth after a lengthy illness on Dec. 24, 2019 at his home, celebrating Christmas with his family. Eddie served his country in the US Army, having served in Vietnam. Eddie drove trucks after his military service and was a volunteer firefighter for 30 years. He married Gurlean Matthews Craghead on June 14, 1974, and she was the love of his life. He became an instant dad of five kids, loving each one as his own. In April of 1975 Eddie and Gurlean had a son of their own, Eddie Jr. They raised 9 kids, 6 of their own and 3 of their grandchildren. When Eddie wasn’t driving trucks, he loved to go fishing and hunting with his family. A special time was his love of long rides with Gurlean, and spending every minute together. Survivors include his wife Gurlean; children, Chris and Laurie Craghead of Vian, Lloyd Craghead of Vian, Darlene and James Risley of Sallisaw, Johnney Craghead of Vian, Janet and Tim Sanders of Sallisaw, Eddie Brown Jr of Vian, and Rock Miller of Roland; Brothers and sisters, Freddie Brown of Sallisaw, Billy and Doris Rosson of Vian, Doris Slavens of Ft. Smith, Linda Brown of Ft Smith, Jackie and Trina Brown of Harrah, Ricky and Wanda Brown of Howell, Floyd and Rosa Brown of Murfreesboro, TN, James and Bink Brown of Ft Smith; 17 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends that love him and will miss him greatly. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Norma Nuss, Brother in law, Butch Nuss. Visitation for Eddie will be held on Monday, Dec 30, 2019 from 4-7pm in the Sequoyah Memorial Chapel, Forever Memories Funeral Service, 463505 Hwy 101 Sallisaw, OK. Funeral Services will be held in the Round Mountain Church, west of Vian on Tuesday, Dec 31, 2019 at 2:00 pm, with Rev Wesley Owens Officiating. Interment will follow in the Round Mountain Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Eddie Brown Jr., Chris Craghead, Lloyd Craghead, Johnney Craghead, Cody Risley, Cassie Risley, and James Risley. Honorary casket bearers will be Clinton Matthews, William Matthews, Tommy Matthews, Patrick Ledford, Richard Ledford, Floyd Craghead, and Brandon Brown.Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Forever Memories Funeral Service, Sallisaw.

  3. I’m so very sorry for your loss. Please accept our deepest condolences. Eddie was the friendliest propane driver we’ve ever had! We’ve sure missed him since he retired. Prayers for you all during this sad time!! Eddie will be missed greatly.

  4. As one of the nurses that helped to take care of him for several years, it was evident Mr. Brown was very much loved by his family when they brought him to the VA for his weekly visits. He will be missed greatly; my thoughts and prayers go out to his family and Mrs. Brown on this difficult day and throughout the years to follow.
