Billy Joe Mar, 48, of Vian, passed away Wednesday, October 12, 2016 in Fort Smith. Billy Joe was born on October 15, 1967 in Nashville, AR to Archie Obrie and Brenda Lee (Holcomb) Mar.Billy Joe graduated Vian high School in 1986. He then served in the military from 1986 until 1993. He had been a welder in the Tulsa area and was also a member of The Way of the Cross Freewill Baptist Church in Sallisaw where he was very active and he loved his Lord. He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren, loved fishing with his brothers and friend and was a very avid OU Football fan.Billy Joe was preceded in death by his father, Great Grandparents; Roy & Cora Holcomb, Tom & Lucinda Dotson. Grandparents; Sam & Nadine Holcomb, Mandy Taylor, Jimmy & Edna Capps. And his step-father-Tip Stewart.Billy Joe is survived by his wife-Shelly of Vian, son B.J. Mar of Tahlequah, Mother- Brenda Stewart of Vian, Brothers; Bobby Mar and Jimmy Mar both of Vian, sisters; Edna Kimble of Tahlequah and Robin Hickman of Sallisaw. 4 Grandchildren; Rhiannon Mar, Paisley Scoggins, Gus Scoggins and Josh Scoggins.Family to receive friends from 6-8 pm on Thursday, October 20, 2016 at Forever Memories Funeral Services. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 21, 2016 at Way of The Cross Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Copeland and Rev. Justin Haywood officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery of Vian. Casket bearers will be; James Walters, Rick Walters, Daniel James Walters, D.J. Walters, Raymond Pigeon and Cleve Rorex. Honorary bearers will be; Daniel Hastings, Barry Buttery, Dale Ollis, James Lewis, Rick Meadows, Tommy Hines, Johnny Bishop, Brad Remer, Gerald Woods, Chad Warner and Kyndal Thomason.

  1. My thoughts and prayers are with Billy’s family and friends! I was beyond shocked, at the news of his death…he was a great guy and will be truly missed!

  2. This makes me so sad for Billy’s family especially Brenda. I loved hearing Billy’s testimonies, so heartfelt. He so enjoyed Church and it was pleasure to attend with him. We will miss him. Prayers for the family.

  3. We are saddened by the loss of Billy, his Mom and family are so precious to us, know his since he was just a kid. So sorry we will not be able to attend his service but our prayers are with you all.

  4. My thoughts and prayers our with all of you! I was quite a bit younger than him, but I remember as a child at reunions, he was one of the funnier cousins! He will be missed dearly. God BLESS and much love!

  6. Hauled hay one summer with Billy — hot, sweaty, unpleasant work, but it was made enjoyable solely by being in his company. Had many good, many deep conversations with him during those long summer days. Even though I hadn’t talked to Bill in ages, he and his family have always been, and will always be, precious to me. Prayers of comfort for them in this difficult time.

  7. It was such a shock to learn of this news! Billy was such a great guy, always smiling, friendly, loved his Lord and Savior. So blessed to have been able to meet him and be in church with him. His testimonies were such a blessing to hear and always put a smile on my face! You will be greatly missed and I know you are at peace. Prayers for the family for comfort and peace.
