Biography

Benjamin Franklin Poindexter, 85, of Sallisaw died on Thursday, Feb 18, 2021. Benjamin was born on June 2, 1935 in Rocky Point to Jim and Pearl (Worley) Poindexter. He was retired from the US Navy and had received his Masters Degree in Education. He worked for many years as a school principal and was instrumental in getting the Oklahoma Public Schools system computer functioning for classwork studies. He was a member of the Copic Church and loved time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Poindexter of the home; Children, Keith and his wife Dianna Poindexter , Patricia and her husband Jeff Tyler, Patricia and her husband Derrick Evans, and Bruce Poindexter; Step children, Genie and Jerry Sizemore, Mike and Pauletta Pendergraft, Tim and Jennifer Flynn; and his sister, Maggie Beard; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Jason Poindexter, and his siblings, Raymond Poindexter, Andy Poindexter, William Poindexter, Tom Poindexter, Gerald Poindexter, Eva Pewitt, Eller Barnes, Wilma Owens, Vergie Kilmer, and Ruth Townsend.Visitation for Benjamin will be on Monday, Feb 22, 2021 from 4-7 pm in the Sequoyah Memorial Chapel of Forever Memories Funeral Service, 463505 Hwy 101, Sallisaw, OK. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Feb 23, 2021 at 2:00 pm in the Sequoyah Memorial Chapel with Rev Floyd “Juke” Koester officiating. Mr. Poindexter’s final resting place to be in the North View Cemetery immediately following the service. The US Navy Honor Guard will provide military honors at the gravesite.   1. He was a wonderful father to me, my brother Jason and Patti Poindexter. He adopted us in as young 7,8, & 9 being in foster care. Our mother Jeanette Poindexter gave up so much love and took excellent care of us. Unfortunately, Nancy was 20 years younger than our mother Jeanette and was convincing Ben Poindexter to become a step father to many of her children.We love you dad! So sorry we are not able to be present at the funeral due to step children taking over.
