Shala Comer

Biography

Shala Comer, 60, of Gans, passed from this life on Thursday, Oct. 7, 2021. Born in Olton, TX on January 3, 1961, to Mother Erma Glynn Hacker Vasquez Father Joe Dee Hicks she married Charles Henry Comer in Dimmitt, TX on December 31, 1975. Charles preceded her in death on 9/22/2021.
It is not possible to summarize in a short paragraph the amazing wife, mother, memaw, sister, nurse, and friend that Shala was. In her short life she touched so many and accomplished so much. Kind, stern, strong, fearless, brave, stubborn, and beautiful were just a few words used to describe her by those who knew and loved her most. Her love was infectious, her compassion undeniable, and her dedication to family and her patients were unquestionable.
Shala loved spending time with family and dancing in the kitchen. She loved beautiful things, collecting jewelry, gemstones, and all kinds of animals. She loved online shopping resulting in lots of packages in the mail (that had to be hidden from Pawdaddy).
Shala was such a selfless and compassionate person always making sure people had what they needed and would pay for a stranger’s groceries when they didn’t have money. The world is a better place because of her and we are better people for being loved by her.
Survived by 3 children Zeberiah Comer and his wife Sheila of seven oaks, Rheanna England of Gans, and Leah Jerrell and her husband Josh of Gans. 9 grandchildren Angel, Sarah, Sadie, Charlie, Kaylee, Jaxon, Zac, Meaghan, and Joshua. 3 great grandchildren, Kyrie, Gavin, and Linnox. 1 sister Twila and Fidel Ortiz, 3 brothers Jay Dee, Michael, and Cody. Preceded in death by her husband, mother, father, and step father Fortunato Vasquez
Honorary Pallbearers: Zeb, Charlie, Jaxon, Zach, Maximus, Mason

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.2 The same was in the beginning with God.3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

  1. I was so impressed with Shala. All of the words used to describe her fit so well.
Seeing her and you girls come to church together and the obvious love you all had for one another spoke volumes.
    She left a priceless legacy.

  2. I worked with Shaka for over 12 years & she was CB my friend too. We have laughed & cried together many times. We both have had our hearts broken many many times over when a precious patient of ours passed. But took comfort knowing where they were. I know where my friend is today. I too take comfort from that. Our precious Mr. T Ino doubt, kept his promise to be there to open the gates of Heaven to her. I love you both & will see y’all again someday!

Shala, you meant so much to so many. You was a daughter, a sister, an aunt, a nurse and a friend. You was a bride, a mother, a grandmother, and a great grandmother. God calls you his child, while I just call you my friend.
