Biography

Nellie Jo Parrish, On Thursday, November 19, 2020, devoted mother of three children, walked in the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ at the age of 72. Nellie Jo Parrish was born June 21, 1948 in Vian, Oklahoma to the late Ted and Elizabeth Henry. She grew up in Vian, Oklahoma, where she confessed a hope in Christ at an early age, where she attended First Missionary Baptist Church of Vian, Oklahoma. Nellie attended Vian Public Schools and graduated from Vian High School in 1966. Nellie was an avid lover of sports and during her young life she was a member of Vian High basketball, and the track and field team. Nellie worked for Whirlpool Corporation in Fort Smith, Arkansas for thirty years and then retired. On October 1, 1979 she married Lloyd Glenn Parrish. They raised one son, and two daughters. Nellie was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as GranGran. She had a vivacious personality and always expressed her mind.She loved to read, especially the Harlequin Romance books, was highly skilled with knitting needles and crochet hooks. Some of her greatest joys was gardening her plants, attending family functions and being around friends and family members. Nellie was preceded in death by her late husband Lloyd Glenn Parrish, her parents, her sisters Dorothy Henry-Parrish, and Wilma Jean Dickson. She leaves to cherish her memories three children; Janette Parrish of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Glenda Parrish of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Glenn Parrish of Tulsa, Oklahoma; one brother Louis Wayne Bland of Vian, Oklahoma (LeGertha Ann); seven grandchildren, Jasmine White, Kavon Belcher, Antonio Parrish, Deshaylon Parrish, Briana Kindrix, Tyra Parrish and Ceanna Shaffer: three great grandchildren; Kaisen M. Belcher, Jah’Bria Melani Lynn Jackson, and Darren Royal Glenn Parrish; five sisters-in-laws, one brother-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends and many girlfriends. All whom loved her dearly will never forget her tenacity, wit, charm and underlying love and caring for them. Nellie will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts. She was such a blessing to us.Graveside services will be held on Saturday, Nov 28, 2020 at 1:00 pm with PAstor Mack Jackson officiating.
