Michael David Wortman, 75, passed away on Saturday May 19, 2018 at Sparks Hospital in Fort Smith, AR. He was born on April 6, 1943 in Stillwater, OK to Dewey and Beulah Wortman.Mike grew up in Tucson, AZ., graduating from Flowing Wells High School in 1961. After high school he joined the military, where he served for 23 distinguished years. Michael retired as Master Sergeant, United States Army, in 1984. He moved his family to Vian after retiring where he pursued his higher education degree at Northeastern State University. He graduated with a Master degree in Computer Science in 1989. Upon graduating he held multiple positions in the Vian School system, most notably as the Computer Science administrator for more than 15 years. Mike married Carla Bennett in1990 in Sallisaw, OK. They were happily married for 22 years. Mike was preceded in death by his parents Dewey and Beulah, Wife Carla, Brother Richard, and son Kelly.Michael is survived by his sons Shawn Wortman of Bentonville, AR, Brian (Laura) Wortman of Bentonville, AR, John (Nicole) Bennett of Sallisaw, OK, Lee (Stephanie) Bennett of Vian, daughters Bobbie Jo (David) Real of Sallisaw, OK Laura (Brandon) Fisher of Wichita, KS, Sister Gigi Wortman of Tucson, AZ, grandchildren Courtney Wortman, Maya Wortman, Addison Wortman, Reed Wortman, Kennedy Fisher, Aiden Fisher, Robert Lee Bennett and Carlee Bennett, Lacey Real, J.T. Real, Harley Real.Visitation will be held at Forever Memories Funeral Service, 463505 HWY 101 Sallisaw, OK on Tuesday May 22, 2018 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Graveside services will follow in the Buffington Cemetery, Sallisaw on Wed, May 23, 2018 at 2:00 pm.

My deepest condolences on the loss of Michael, I knew him from years ago.
I extend to you the family my deepest sympathies in the passing of Mike. He was a cornerstone in the development of many young soldiers. I served with him in Heilbronn Germany in the early 70’s at 237th Engineer Battalion (ADM). He will be missed.
