Biography

Lola “Marie” (Childs) McElhaney, 75, passed this life Monday, July 1, 2019, in Vian, Oklahoma. Marie was born December 11, 1944 in Lawrence, Kansas to Ralph and Dorothy Childs. She worked odd jobs and went to beauty school and became a hairdresser. She also worked as a seamstress. An avid fisherman, Marie relocated from McCloud, OK to Vian, OK to retire near the lake in 1994. Marie met Silas McElhaney in 1998 and the two of them married on October 28, 2005 after he took her for a surprise trip to Fort Smith, Arkansas. She was the matriarch of the family and enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, gardening, yard sales, collecting shoes, purses and teddy bears.Marie is survived by her husband, Silas; daughters, Carmen and Tommy May of Shawnee, OK, Krystal Lee of Muldrow, OK, and Rhonda Major of Oklahoma City, OK; grandchildren, Jennifer Kuehner of Sallisaw, OK, Marcus May of Japan, Michael May of Harrah, OK, Danielle Markkula of Tulsa, OK, and Dustin Little of Pryor, OK; great-grandchildren, Tristan, Adriauna and Olivia Harris, Temperance Lee, Ryken and Major May, Marcus “Tator” May, Evelyn Rosser, Canton Little, and Paige and Phoenix Doyle; great great-grandchildren, Miles and Johnny Dean Raincloud Harris; siblings, Freda Graalfs of Hulbert, OK and Jack Childs of Seminole, OK; and many other nieces, nephews, family and friends.She is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, LeQueta Brookshier; brother, Ralph Leroy Childs; and brother-in-law, John Graalfs.Visitation for Marie will be Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at 9am in the Sequoyah Memorial Chapel at Forever Memories Funeral Services, 463505 Hwy 101, Sallisaw, OK.Funeral services will follow on Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at 10am in the Sequoyah Memorial Chapel at Forever Memories Funeral Services. Burial will be at 1:30pm at Little Cemetery in Seminole, OK Pastor Elvin Still will officiate.The family of Marie has entrusted the funeral arrangements to Forever Memories Funeral Services.

Carmen and Rhonda, I am so sorry to hear that Marie passed away, I messaged her a few times on messenger, I didn’t know she was sick, Danielle told me a few weeks back that she was sick I always liked your mom, I will keep you girls in my prayers, just know that your mom is with her mom and dad now she’s a beautiful angel, she’ll always be with you girls, in your hearts, and y’all have all the happy memories y’all made with her……
