Biography

Johnny Roastingear- an activist, warrior, husband, father, brother, uncle and cousin- left this trail of life to begin his new spiritual journey on September 20, 2021 in Crownpoint, NM.

Johnny was born August 22, 1959 to Harold Roastingear and Corena Glass in Tahlequah, OK.

Johnny was the second oldest of 7 children. Out of his many passions, he was most passionate about his wife Anita, his children, his grandchildren and his pets. He enjoyed talking to family and friends and could hold a conversation for hours. Many people would agree that there wasn’t anyone else who could tell a story the way he did. He was always there to lend an ear, give a hug, or offer words of wisdom, kindness and encouragement. He lived an adventurous life, always being a free bird and going with the flow. Johnny took great pride in all he did and was passionate about his people’s rights, traveling far and wide to stand with fellow tribes. He was always wearing his boots, white t-shirt or button up with his hair down or in a pony tail. He was known by many and loved by all.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, Harold and Corena; 2 sisters, Jenny and Karen; 1 brother in law, Phillip “Red” Mathews and 1 sister in law, Jewel Roastingear.

Survivors include his wife, Anita Roastinger of the home; 3 children, Bronson Harjo of Tulsa, OK, Felicia Roastingear of OK, Asa Benally of NY; 5 grandchildren; 1 sister, Corena Maxine Mathews of Nicut, OK; 3 brothers, James Roastingear of Brushy, OK, Phillip Roastingear of Tahlequah, OK, David Roastingear of Nicut, OK and countless other family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday evening from 4-7p.m in the Sequoyah Memorial Chapel of Forever Memories Funeral Services, 463505 Hwy 101, Sallisaw. Funeral Services will take place on Saturday, October 02, 2021, at 10:00a.m. in the Sequoyah Memorial Chapel with burial in the Roastingear Cemetery, near Short, OK.

Active casket bearers are Keith, Greg and Andrew Mathews, Kenny Vann, Eric Soap and Mathew Shafer.
Honorary bearers are James, Phillip and David Roastingear, Bronson Harjo, Pat Moss and George Crittenden.

Services are under the direction of Forever Memories Funeral Services, 463505 Hwy 101, Sallisaw. fmfsinc.com.
