Biography

James Louis Brown, 97, of Gans, Oklahoma, passed away at 11:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at his home in Gans, Oklahoma. He was born on October 27, 1925, in Smithton, Arkansas, to the late John Wesley Brown and Mary (Farris) Brown. He was preceded in death by his wife of 74 years, Nina Jean (Crosslin) Brown, in October 2021, and a daughter, Diana Lou Gunter of Gans, in October 2021. He was also preceded in death by all of his other siblings. He grew up and attended school in Gans, Oklahoma. He served as a Naval Seaman First Class from 1943 to 1946. He retired as an upholster at Southland Furniture in Fort Smith, Arkansas. His specialties included diamond tufts and antiques of all kinds. He also upholstered out of his home until 2021. He was of the Assembly of God faith. He dedicated his life to the love of upholstery and his entire family. He loved all his babies beyond measure and would claim any others he could! Survivors include his children, Joe Gunter (Son-in-law), Daryl & Deana Brown, Dennis & John Wigley-Brown, Darla Gragg & Stacy Shelton; grandchildren Steven & Manci Gunter, Robin & Matt Whitekiller, Jayme Gunter, Derek & Tara Brown, Jeannette & Jason Miller; great-grandkids Ty (Erin), Garrett, Jacklyn (Dyllan), Joshua, Bayli (Matt), Blayke (Alyssa), Brylee, Shane (Stephanie), Trent (Crystal), Drayden (Madi), Drextyn (Brittany), Dauslyn, Drantly, Zoey, Tori, Karina. His great-great grandbabies Peyton & Paxton, Ryker, Hadley & Rynli, Sagelynn, and Jackson, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends whom he loved very much.

A visitation for James will be held on Tuesday evening, May 23, 2023, from 6:00-8:00 pm in the Sequoyah Memorial Chapel of Forever Memories Funeral Service, 463505 Hwy 101, Sallisaw, OK. His funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at the Gans Bible Church, Gans, OK, with Rev Daryl Brown and Rev Steve Maybray officiating. Interment will follow in the Gans Cemetery; Pallbearers will be Derek Brown, Drayden Brown, Drextyn Brown, Drantly Brown, Blayke Haggard, Steven Gunter, Ty Gunter, Joey Gunter, John Wigley, and Matt Whitekiller. Honorary bearers are the Men of the Gans Bible Church, Butch Acton, Tony Gray, Chris Gray, Matt Corley, and Jason Miller. Arrangements are under the direction of Forever Memories Funeral Services of Sallisaw.
