Biography

Gary Thomas Carter, 76, of Gore, Oklahoma, passed away on September 18, 2022, in Muskogee, Oklahoma.

Gary was born July 16, 1946, in Webbers Falls, Oklahoma. Gary was the 5th child of nine, born to Cleo and Opal (Boswell) Carter. He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force and worked as a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. Gary enjoyed music of all kinds, but his favorites were the blues and country. His greatest enjoyment was playing drums and spoons with his brothers, uncles, and anyone else who would let him join in the fun of music. He loved coon hunting, fishing, and just sitting by the river relaxing and listening to nature. Gary’s most recent enjoyment was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and he shared his love of music with them and his three daughters.

Gary is survived by his three daughters, Tonya Gates and Thumper of Vian, Oklahoma, Cindi Smith and Jack Wiggins of Centennial, Colorado, and Chrissy Jones and Joe Pat of Vian, Oklahoma; One grandson; Nathan Gates (Kylee); Four granddaughters, Darian Flanagan (Chris), Madelyn Flanagan, Stormie Knowlton and Josey Jones; Three great-grandchildren; Frankie, Maysen and Isaac Knowlton; Two Brothers, Don Carter (Janis) of Gore, Oklahoma and Larry Carter (Carolyn) of Gore, Oklahoma; Three sisters, Evelyn Klucevsek (Frank) of Chouteau, Oklahoma, Linda Neer of Gore, Oklahoma and Judy Merrill (Steve) of Sallisaw, Oklahoma; Sister-in-law, Louise Carter of Webbers Falls, Oklahoma; Aunt, Lena Risley of Vian, Oklahoma; Uncle, James Carter (Mary) Rose, Oklahoma, and several other nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Cleo and Opal Carter; one sister, Dana Springer; two brothers, Jim Carter and Delbert Carter; brothers-in-law, Danny Clopton, Bruce Neer, and Jim Springer.

Active Pallbearers will be his nephews, Jeff Carter, Jerome Carter, Kelly Hickelheim, Frank Klucevsek IV, Justin Carter, Kevin Carter Springer, and Adam Klucevsek.

Honorary Pallbearers are Thumper Gates, Joe Jones, Nathan Gates, Don Carter, Larry Carter, Rex Johnson, Steve Merrill, and Frank Klucevsek III.

A visitation for Gary will be held on Thursday, September 22, 2022, from 5-8 P.M. in the Chapel of Forever Memories Funeral Services in Sallisaw, Oklahoma.

A Funeral Service will follow on Friday, September 23, 2022, at 10:00 A.M. at the First Baptist Church in Gore, Oklahoma. Burial will follow at White Cemetery.
