Biography

Corena “Maxine” Mathews, 66, of Muldrow, Oklahoma, passed away in Spiro, Oklahoma, on July 02, 2024. Maxine was born in Stillwell, Oklahoma, to Harold and Corena Roastingear on September 12, 1957.

Maxine most enjoyed spending time with her family. This meant she was often baking or cooking for us. It was her way of bringing us all together. She treasured our company. She enjoyed taking trips and attending concerts with friends. She loved her music! She was most proud of her children and grandchildren, and she made sure to tell them every chance she got how loved and adored they were. She was a wonderful wife, mother, nanny, and dear friend. Her laugh was infectious, and her heart was made of gold. The most kind and caring person who would do anything for anyone.

Proverbs 31:26  She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.

Maxine is survived by her companion, Ricky McCoy; her children, Keith Jeremy Mathews and Phillip Gregory Mathews, both of the home, Kaitlyn Mathews of Nicut, Oklahoma; her daughter-in-law, Twana Garcia of Fort Smith, Arkansas, her siblings, James Roastingear of Brushy, Oklahoma, Phillip Roastingear of Lindsey, Oklahoma, Mary Soap of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, her grandchildren, Jacqulene and Blake Farmer of Spiro, Oklahoma, Andrew and Samantha Mathews of the home, Brianna Carrillo of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Maria Sevenstar of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Phillip Logan Mathews of Marble City, Oklahoma, Jayden Hoover of Nicut, Oklahoma, great-grandchildren, Taven Farmer, Kinslee Hobbs, Remi and Luke Chambers, Diana Mathews, Rooster Chambers, Ryatt Mathews, Luna Nunez, and Ezra Farmer.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Phillip Earl Mathews; parents, Harold and Corena Roastingear; siblings, Karen Cheater, Jennie Roastingear, Johnny Roastingear, and David Roastingear; Granddaughter, Shilah Carrillo; and great-granddaughter, Reya Shi Carrillo-Watie.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Phillip Earl Mathews; parents, Harold and Corena Roastingear; siblings, Karen Cheater, Jennie Roastingear, Johnny Roastingear, and David Roastingear; Granddaughter, Shilah Carrillo; and great-granddaughter, Reya Shi Carrillo-Watie.

Visitation will be 4:00 – 8:00 P.M., Thursday, July 11, 2024, in the Sequoyah Memorial Chapel of Forever Memories Funeral Services, Sallisaw, Oklahoma. The family will greet guest from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M.

Funeral Service will held at 11:00, on Friday, July 12, 2024, in the Sequoyah Memorial Chapel of Forever Memories Funeral Services with Vance Mooney officiating.

Final resting place will be Seabolt Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Keith Mathews, Gregory Mathews, Andrew Mathews, Don Paul Mathews, Jason Bush, and Blake Farmer.

Honorary Pallbearers are Eric Soap, Ricky McCoy, Bob Anglen, Stanely Smith, Ronald McCoy, James Roastingear, Jack Cantrell, Maxie Flynn, Michael D Allen and Daniel Carter.

The Family has entrusted the funeral arrangements to Forever Memories Funeral Services, INC, Sallisaw, Oklahoma.

  1. We will Love and Miss you so much Nanny Maxine! You meant so much to me,Marcos, and your granddaughter’s! You gave me so much of your wisdom I don’t know what I would have done without you in my life. Give our baby girl Shilah big hugs for us and until we meet again.

  4. After my mom passed, Aunt Max stepped in and was a mother to me in every way she could. I will miss her so much. Fly high, Aunt Max! I love you!

  5. What can I say, but I loved this woman dearly. Maxine was the best. I remember growing up as I kid, Maxine was always there. Maxine and my Mom(Phyllis) were always best of buds. May you rest easy Maxine.
